Erie Fresh Edible Red Gables Garden
Erie Fresh, starting in 2008, is working with the Red Gables Mesquite Grill – located at 2350 Cleveland Rd (Rt. 6) – to provide a more sustainable approach for the restaurant. By using the available space on the property, Erie Fresh constructs an edible landscape that provides a quarters worth of restaurant items from July till the end of October. This ensures Red Gables to have the freshest available produce on hand, and allows them to reduce their environmental impact by relying less on foods that travel around 1500 miles before reaching the restaurant. The foods grown are sourced from Mulberry Creek Herb Farm, an organically certified grower located within Erie County, and from Erie Fresh. All fertilizers are also within organic standards and organic methods are used throughout the season.
The Red Gables is also given a list of local farmers, harvest dates and prices; which are now being utilized to prepare menu dishes with locally grown seasonal produce. Stop by to see the landscape and talk with owner Chef Pribanic about the quality of locally grown foods.
